Investment in Research

Teer Coatings Ltd. has a policy of investing in Research and Development (R&D). This commitment and investment is a continuing strategic imperative and enables the company now to maintain an effective, well equipped and staffed coatings’ research laboratory, supported by a modern tribological testing and analytical laboratory. Within the R&D department seven people of degree or PhD level are employed, supported by high quality technical support staff, including six Quality Department & Testing Laboratory personnel. Ten PVD coating systems are exclusively or partially dedicated to R&D.

Proven Success

The R&D activities at Teer Coatings Ltd. have been very successful, resulting in the development of the PLASMAG range of magnetrons, the UDP coating systems, the Closed Field system and even size-selected nano-cluster technology. Many new and commercially relevant coatings have been developed including the first DLC coating with good adhesion, the unique hard, wear resistant solid lubricant coatings MoST™ and Graphit-iC™, the DLC coating Dymon-iC and a high performance range of hard, wear resistant coatings based on CrTiAlN which have revolutionised the coating of dies for the numismatic minting applications.

Centre of Excellence

Teer Coatings Ltd. is recognised as a centre of excellence for coatings research and regularly attracts students worldwide for education and training. Formal co-operation has been established through CASE studentships, UK and EC funded collaborative projects with many universities and research institutes. We are currently supporting external PhD projects at Aston and Manchester Metropolitan Universities, and have previously supported two internal PhD students in collaboration with Nottingham and Salford Universities.
