MoST™ Coatings
MoST™ is a low friction, high wear resistant, solid lubricant coating. The coating is a molybdenum disulphide (MoS2)/metal composite coating. MoST™ coatings, developed and patented by Teer Coatings, are harder and more wear resistant than traditional MoS2 coatings, yet still retain the low friction characteristics of MoS2.
MoST™ can be used either as a stand alone coating or on top of traditional hard coatings to further enhance properties.
Typical Properties
• 1-2 µm thick
• friction coefficient is 0.05 depending on application and test conditions
• specific wear rate <10-17 m3/Nm
• hardness (HV 0.05) 1400 depending on application and test conditions
• maximum working temperature 350°C
• deposition temperature 140°C
• grey colour
Comparison with Traditional MOS2 Coatings
• far greater load bearing capacity
• much higher hardness
• extremely dense
• high adhesion to substrate or underlying coating
• ability to perform well in humid atmospheres
Uses and Applications
• dry machining of steels, cast iron, aluminium alloys and hard to machine materials (such as titanium and nickel)
• punching, tapping
• drilling, milling
• forming and moulding tools
• vacuum and aerospace applications
• bearing races
• low friction applications
